[Steph is still shaking off the last of the illness, battling the occasional ache and wave of lethargy to take a shipment over to Westerley, partly because it's her job, but also because she has plans to meet up with a PI that one of her colleagues suggested. Part of her keeps screaming that this is a stupid idea, that she's going to end up being found out, but she's not sure if she has many other options. She can't keep living like this, acting as if everything is fine when it really, truly isn't. The hallucinations, the way she reacted to Giovanna, the scars…. none of it adds up and she needs answers.

That doesn't make her any less nervous as she slips into the bar where she's due to meet Kate, scanning the room for anyone in purple.]

[Kate is sitting in the back corner, decked out in an obnoxious amount of purple, as promised. It's a small place, one that Kate picked specifically because it's relatively Resistance leaning, which means there aren't many people from the Company who hang out here. Kate doesn't know who she's waiting for or what to look for, so she just waits, playing with the straw in her drink absently.]

[Steph has made the sensible decision to pick an outfit that looks far more Westie than Leithian, which is honestly how her wardrobe leans anyway, it's just a bit more important when she's trying not to stick out.

The purple that Kate's wearing is much more noticeable, though she assumes that's kind of the point, since it makes it easy for Steph to spot her, wandering over as soon as she does.]

Do these sorts of things usually feel like blind dates?

[Covering up her nerves with humor is her modus operandi.]

[There she is. Younger than Kate expected, too, but it's always sort of nice to work with someone closer to her own age. Kate grins at the joke, shrugging.]

A little. I figured flowers would be overkill, so I went for subtle.

[Totally sarcastic. She definitely sticks out.]

[Alright, she's got a sense of humor, and that helps ease some of the tension in Steph's shoulders as she takes a seat, trying not to fidget.]

I wouldn't have turned them down.

[Look she's not really flirting, this is just how she works.]

I think that's probably some sort of breach of professionalism, but hey, who am I to say no to a customer?

[Also, professionalism and Kate have a hazy relationship.]

So, what can I do for you?

[Professionalism is for nerds, honestly. Steph thinks it's a good idea to hang out with a Dog, so she can't really throw stones.]

So, this is going to sound a little odd, but I want you to investigate me.

[She's come up with an excuse other than the memory thing, but she'll give Kate a second with just that first bit of information.]

Uh... Okay.

[Definitely weird. It's clear from Kate's expression that it isn't a request she gets often. Or ever, to be accurate.]

Why?

[Steph at least looks apologetic.]

I work for the Company, and I'm Leithian, and they've recently had some information leaks. [This might be classified information, so she's trusting Kate's professional discretion here.] I'm worried someone's trying to pin something on me, there's been a lot of heat from up high, but I know I've done nothing wrong.

[Or at least, she hasn't done anything wrong in the last 11 and a half months.]

I was hoping you'd be able to find out if it looks like I'm doing anything I shouldn't be.

[She feels like it's a good excuse, it gives Kate a reason to dig into her background, her communications, her relationships, to see if there's anything there someone is trying to exploit.]

[Kate frowns, expression shifting to something more serious.]

What do you think they're trying to pin on you, exactly? The leaks?

I think so. My family doesn't have land, but we've been on Leith for a long time, and after the attack...

[It's easy to point fingers.

Steph shrugs]

Personally I think the True Leithians are assholes, but I'm worried about how it looks on paper.

[Kate nods, leaning back in her chair and going silent for a moment as she considers.]

I can help you, but digging through Company intel isn't easy. I won't be able to give you much more than rumors.

[She's not a hacker, unfortunately.]

I'm kind of desperate.

[That is true, if nothing much else is, because she's starting to feel more and more like something big is missing, more than just memories.]

Even if you don't find anything, it'll be a weight off my chest.

Okay. I'll see what I can do. Can you give me an idea of where to start? What I should be looking for?

[This is the - slightly less well thought out part, but she has an idea of something that might pan out, if there's anything to be found.]

The logs for my shipping runs might show up something weird, I tried to get access to them but didn't have much luck. I dunno if you'll have more luck, but if you're better with tech than I am...

[Maybe she went somewhere or saw something she shouldn't have, and her memory was taken because of it. Or maybe she did it voluntarily.]
