[Kate has never been in a riot before. She's never been in a protest before. Her life, up until moving to Westerley, has been sheltered and safe, cloistered away in her father's mansion. At first, the surge of energy is almost invigorating, but things turn violent quickly, and all she can think, over and over, is that she has to help. It's her job to help, and something about that impulse nags at her, like there's a responsibility here that goes deeper than any instinctive do-gooder impulse she usually has.

Kate has never been in a riot before, but something about this feels familiar. It's chaotic, but she thinks there's a pattern to the chaos, like she knows how this will go before it happens. It doesn't make any sense, but as she moves through the crowds, trying to protect protestors and enforcers alike, she's not nearly as out of her depth as she should be. There's a strange sense of deja vu, but she doesn't have time to dwell on it.

She's running out of arrows, jaw throbbing from a poorly placed punch, when someone grabs her and she spins around, trying to wrench her arm away before she registers who it is, and relief floods her features.]
