It was just an-- [ Crowley realizes that his honesty and tone of voice would have seemed as if he was antagonizing the shorter individual, but that's certainly not the case.

However instead of surprise Kanda will be met with an brighter smile. If Crowley's heart was still active it might have skipped a beat, instinct kicking in to keep himself from getting hurt due to his irregular healing and quickly drawing a hand up. Knuckles and brute force skimming across his cheek as he tilts his head; this stranger was surprisingly fast.

Amused, the Qreshi finishes his sentence before he's so rudely interrupted. ] --honest question.

Do you fight all of your opponents while they're unarmed?

If they're stupid enough to step in this room, yes.

[Pointedly, he glances down to where Crowley's feet are, just inside the door, and arches a brow at the noble.

Unlike Lavi, he has no reason to play polite host with a member of the Nine - and had it not been for his partner's very explicit warnings, he probably would have put the man out the airlock and been done with him.

As it is, he's their guest, but not one that Kanda has any intention of welcoming.

Not when he still has no clue as to which families had been the ones funding his 'upgrades'.

Finally stepping back, he points the wooden sword towards the door, his meaning clear: Get out, or get a second strike. Your choice.]

Mmm... sounds like you're leaving a little out but that's okay.

[ Does he expect much else from a killjoy? Not really, at least not one that he was warned about.

But Kanda wasn't even a threat, in his perspective. Or perhaps his firm belief of #YOLO made his vision of what could be a bad decision a little blurry. ]

There's only so much I can do with Lavi. Besides, it's not everyday I get to meet someone who knows how to fight with a sword. [ Besides Crowley doesn't wanna have another discussion as to why he conveniently has servants with large... assets. ] I may be a little rusty, but why don't we have a match?

[Fortunately for Crowley, Kanda couldn't care less about the assets of the man's servants. But to him - he doesn't see how he's left anything out at all, unless the princeling meant that he shouldn't hit him just because he had blood of the Nine in him.

If anything, that's more of a reason in Kanda's book.

The offer of a match, though?

That's almost too good to pass up.

Wordlessly, he tosses the practice sword in his hand towards Crowley and turns to take another off the overly stocked wall. The one he takes for himself gets spun in his grip with a confident ease as he smirks at Crowley.]

Fine. Just don't go crying to the RAC if we break a precious nail, you bullshit prince.

[Despite the taunt - he's not an idiot. Someone without experience wouldn't have been able to react to that last blow so effectively, which means he's not about to make the mistake of underestimating the man now.

No. If anything, he wants to see just how well the privileged trained their precious sons. ]

[ Crowley examines the practice sword once it's handed to him, taking a few more steps inside the room before laughing. ]

When I was the one who suggested a match? I'd certainly be a waste of a man to do that sort of thing, prince or not.

[ Prince. The word always sounded so forced not even from individuals such as Kanda, but from himself and other members of the Nine too; his features remained gentle in comparison to the man ahead of him, those thoughts keeping that pleasant smile on his face. ]

So let's not go easy on each other, hm?

[Being a waste of a man is implied, just by that fact - at least, so far as Kanda's concerned. At that suggestion, however, Kanda pauses, his stance still ready but his expression... thoughtful.

Assessing.

There's no doubt that the other man carries strength in him, and his tone is quite confident... perhaps he could loosen the reigns, if only a little bit. He smirks, finally, though there's nothing pleasant in the sharp curve of his lips.]

Fuck it - why not.

[And with that, he doesn't waste any more time - just launches forward, sword swinging sure and swift... and still tightly contained. Strong, yes, but Kanda's been on enough battlefields to understand his own unnatural strength. He's not about to just let go so easily against a supposedly normal human.]

Aren't you tired? [ --of being bitter, but he'll keep the rest to himself.

Rather he needs to concentrate, at least more than he does in everyday situations, and despite his demeanor he's actually taking this quite seriously! Serious in the sense that he wants to be entertained, he wants to be proven that Kanda is worth noting as an opponent--he needs to be if he's so disgusted of just any member of the Nine that he happens to cross paths with.

Crowley parries by holding his sword vertically, whistling after feeling the impact. ]

Ha~ You are stronger than you look. [ He sounds amused. ] I nearly felt that one, so I guess that means I'll have to use both hands for you.

[ Because he was still holding the practice sword with one hand this entire time; bringing his second hand around the handle of the sword he pushes the other man back before taking a step forward and swinging horizontally. ]

[ Maybe he's just not old enough to let his hate go, unlike some. ]

Trying to humor me with using both hands? Don't make me laugh!

[Not one to disappoint on a battlefield - any battlefield - he loosens his personal restraint that little bit more, parry's the stroke with a flick of his own blade to deflect it to the side. The pressure behind that strike had been a little surprising - for all that Crowley looks strong, Kanda wasn't sure just how much of that was genetics and how much strength in skill.

Skill, apparently, is not feigned.

A fierce grin slips into place as their blades part, stays as he uses the momentum to spin on a foot, bring his own around in a sweeping strike towards Crowley's side.]

[ Crowley's initial objective isn't to humor the other man as much as it is to humor himself, but when he's met with the sheer confidence in Kanda's voice he can't help but want to. His curiosity is almost childlike, 'If I win what will he say? If I lose will he show me that same grin twice?' Questions asked as he appeared focused on the other's form. ]

So you definitely have speed, [ Momentum helps too, and the spin comes directly in position of a blind spot that Crowley only dodges by a hair's breadth. ] but moving around like that is a waste. Did you teach yourself?

[ Not teasing! He's genuinely curious.

And no he's not trying to do a dick move by allowing Kanda another swing. ]

[Dick move or not - it's an opportunity, and Kanda's never been one to let those slide needlessly.

Following Crowley through the dodge, he brings the blade in a swift cross-slash meant to open an opponent from hip to shoulder while kicking out towards the side of the other man's knee.]

...You could say that, at first. I've had a few mentors since then though.

[If, by 'self-taught' one meant thrown into a combat simulation room where he had to fight other experiments, day after day, with the threat of 'decommission and resuscitation' if he didn't perform well. Animistic necessity and sheer strength of will carried him to surpass his peers... military training, after that.]
